Target 02:48
You attack because you’re bored and only out of spite And try to drag me down ‘cause there’s nothing else to do; Well, this is alien to me, I’ll never understand: What happened to respect? I’m the target now - so fucking easy! But the sport is fun if the sport is good. It’s so funny, oh, so funny! It’s so funny to watch me bleed. It’s so funny, oh, so funny! Rip my heart out and watch me bleed...

Drifter 03:36
Compass in my head is broken - don’t know north from south, Radar in my brain is totalled - can’t tell up from down. Fingers they point everywhere but I Only gaze back limp, Voices they speak around me But I, I, I, I ain’t switched on. Dimly I see the future, yet I’m blind to clues Furrowed skin is my current existence. All the time in the world! I cannot see it that way, I want to drift in security, I need to have Information...available. Open my eyes so I can walk...

Wrecked you appear and wrecked you are, So much pain in your soul - Resignation grips your mind Not too soon. Suicidal silence – you emanate. She sails away. Shocked you appear and seared you feel, Burning hurt in your eyes. Grieve…Grieve… Murderous silence – you emanate. Her back is turned. Still in one piece – calm No forgiveness, then And you won’t break. Suicidal silence – you emanate. She sails away. Chaos has arisen so change must come Dragon-breath ignites the Earth, From the ashes you will rise Clean and sound of mind.

Need 03:47
Why did you tell me Why?! I don’t fucking want to hear that! I don’t fucking need to hear that! I don’t fucking want to hear that! There is no fucking need… Why did you tell me? (The veil is torn) Why did you tell me? (And cast aside) Why did you tell me? (And I collapse in on myself) Why?! Why?! I don’t fucking want to hear that! I don’t fucking need to hear that! I don’t fucking want to hear that! There is no fucking need… Pain! Pain! Pain! Pain is what you’ve given me Pain is what you’ve given me (Pain!) Pain is what you’ve given me (Pain!) I laughed instead of crying. Why did you tell me? (The wounds are raw) Why did you tell me? (Attracting flies) Why did you tell me? (The bleeding ruin) Why did you tell me? (Of all the lies) Why did you tell me? (Now darkness descends on me) Why did you tell me? (Suffocating life) Why did you tell me? (And I collapse in on myself) Why?! Why?!

Born Free 02:54
Born free to roam, under this damp sunlight Glen and strath, We the common people. Born free to roam, over the snow-white land Frozen loch, We the Scottish people. Blood shed to be free (Blood shed to be free) No memory dimmed (No memory dimmed), You can’t take this away! (You can’t take this away!) You can’t take this away! (Away! Away!) Rise, my people, rise! (C’mon, c’mon!) Walk your land once more. Rise, my people, rise! (C’mon, c’mon!) Walk your land once more. Born free to roam, over haar-laid moor This the right Of us common people. Rise, my people, rise! (C’mon, c’mon!) Walk your land once more. Rise, my people, rise! (C’mon, c’mon!) Walk your land once more.

Stranded 03:05
Once again I’m drifting This time no fingers point And my surety lapses This time no voices speak. I’m standing on a stone disc Suspended over nothingness, This pit, this crucifix Has never been so deep… And the bait is mocking me To reach, to eat and swallow But can I leave this all behind? (I don’t think so). I’m standing on a stone disc Suspended over nothingness, This pit, this crucifix Has never been so deep…deep!

Apply controls to freedom: Ban the press and breed the gun, Accidents do happen - this is knee-jerk reaction. Moral standpoint confused: privacy for those that we pay, But in your interests refused safety for our children. Where the fuck are you coming from? Just two more dead On a day of thousands. Media’s a scapegoat to salve your fucking conscience, What is going to happen to freedom of information? Where the fuck are you coming from? Just two more dead On a day of thousands. Control my freedom! Control my freedom! Control my freedom! To information… Apply controls to freedom: Ban the press and breed the gun, Accidents do happen - this is knee-jerk reaction. Control…control my freedom! Control…information.

Balance 04:15
Once you turned to the light, I am not sure why And now you begin to embrace all that is black. Do you despair of grey, warm neutrality? Religion is kicking the pendulum, Upsetting your internal balance: Or so it seems to me, Or so it seems to me. Perhaps I am blind, but your anger seems so confused, I don’t pretend to understand, when I cannot. Do you see a world beyond this, That you must strive so hard And tangle with that That is not necessary for life? It seems to me, Yes, it seems to me It seems to me, Yes, it seems to me… Religion is kicking your teeth And twisting you soul upon itself. Doesn’t it hurt? Can’t I help you? Whispering…the wind through the trees.

about

ABOUT:
Originally recorded in January 2001, six tracks were released as an EP under the name "Heatsink", by Tenderloin Records. Now re-mixed and re-mastered, and with lead vocals completely re-recorded, the album includes two previously unreleased tracks - "Drifter" and "Balance" - which were part of the original recording sessions but which never made it onto the Heatsink EP.

THE TRANSFORMATION REVIEWS:
"...death metal, with a hardcore and groovy punch...Their sound shows all its influences still the record sounds fresh, and I love the doomy feel and brutal growls reminescent of famed Peaceville's death-doom bands era. Enjoy!" gotanerve-zine.blogspot.com

HEATSINK REVIEWS:
"Rötschreck for those of you not in the know are essentially a riff machine with drums and vocals, and let me tell you that they stumble across some great little foot stomping riffs in the course of this CD that left me very happily nodding away...The band evidently have a penchant for a bit of groove, every now and again coming across like some kind of grooved out 70's death metal hybrid..." Megin Giord 'Zine (England), Apr 2001.

“Pretty aggressive mix of ‘modern’ metal a la Machine Head and Biohazard and a large streak of death metal." Lykos ‘Zine (England), Apr 2001.

“…Braveheart’s countrymates can play extreme music, and in the case of Rötschreck they can do it pretty well too…20 minutes of HC-influenced Death Metal, proving that the Scottish thistle can sting pretty bad…They may not be overly brutal or intricate, but they do have good songwriting skills and the relatively simple structures they use are very effective…the lyrics are one of the band’s strong points. Intelligent, thought-provoking and convincing” Dysangelium Webzine (Romania), Nov 2000.

“an interesting mix of Hardcore, Death and Doom with some added industrial new wave twists…Intense vocalist and a bottom heavy ‘bass’ friendly production”. Another Wordly Device (Australia), Nov 2000.

“…a corking production job, they have in their hands a very interesting release. Straddling the boundaries between death metal and thrash, Rötschreck are as heavy a combination of the two genres can be without it turning into a mess. The songs are powerful and catchy and don’t step into the realms of noise. A very interesting package when all said and done” (8/10). Intoxicated Webzine (England), Oct 2000.

“Scotland’s Rötschreck seem like they’ve come out of nowhere only to get a large number of people in the scene excited. Okay, they’ve had two demos out, but it’s this ep that’s really lighting up eyes and ears. The six tracks on here waver between crust and metalcore…there’s plenty here to suggest something special. The band certainly try to mix the rhythms and moods to fit the rather gloomy lyrics, and when they do get energised, as on ‘Stranded, then they’re as metal as the best of them”. Friends of the Devil Webzine (England), Oct 2000.
